The pastry is a falsehood?

Forum management stuff. Float ideas, make requests, and ask for help here.

Is the portal a nice thing to have around?

Yeah, it's nice/useful/professional-looking/whatever.

No, it's useless and an eyesore. Plus it gets in my way.

The pastry is a falsehood?

The purpose of this poll is to test public opinion on the matter of the "portal" to the forum. I don't have anything against it particularly, but lots of forums do without it, and if nobody likes it especially, it would be tidier to get rid of it. As far as I can see, it provides little useful function, so I feel like getting rid of it on those grounds only...but what do you think?

So when folks visit what would happen? Would the go directly to the forum index? If so, then I agree that getting rid of it simply eliminates a step that is useless.

That's my understanding, yeah.

I guess we need to be sure of that before we start hacking stuff out. We need to verify with the host that turning off the portal choices will allow the public to be directed to the forum index page. I will have to find the password and send them a message, unless you have it avail. They have a very good help desk.

Nah, that would be too tedious. The portal is now gone--best way to test it is to do it.

(It's a simple on/off switch, so it wasn't exactly a risky procedure anyway, and can be flipped right back on in a second.)
