Poets, thanks for the entries. I will forward on to a set of judges, who will select their choices. Then I will tabulate the numbers. May take a few days, depending on whether folks are in town, etc. It is spring break in many parts of the country, so there may be a few days before the responses come back. :00000

First, thank you for allowing me to participate.
Also, after reading the entries, I am astounded
that I came in second. I am excited and very
appreciative.

As far as first place. I believe that was Christian's.
An excellent write indeed and most deserving to win
as was Andrew's surely to be considered up in the ranks.

There were also a number of other very very good
writes that I really thought had potential.

Congrats to Christian and Andrew, and good job
to the other participants.

One of my neighbors started feeding a grizzled, stray cat a few months ago. She has taken it to the vet and had it spayed and given minor medical attention. The cat is now her pet, although it remains outdoors where it is most happy. In the beginning the cat would leave a bird, mouse or other small catch at the front door. My neighbor was pleased that the cat was showing some sign of gratitude. Her comment to me was, "I know in its silence the cat is giving me thanks in return for what I have done. I only wish she could speak my language, because a simple 'Thank you' would be not only sufficient, but the most satisfying result I could hope for."

Well spoken neighbor, very well spoken, indeed. If only I could have that cat, and those small tokens, it would be a vast improvement over nothing at all.
