Last week, we began with two poets in prison and one in exile. This week is no better. We begin with a poet imprisoned in Egypt, another in Gitmo, and the third poet could not get entry into Great Britain to read at the Ledbury Poetry Festival. And can't you just picture the argument that must have taken place at the airport. Well, at least the Queen can sleep a little easier tonight knowing that one less poet is in her country.
Seriously, though, these are signs that the world is at stake. These are grievous acts of censorship on the parts of governments, which show us that those in charge need to get trade or cubicle jobs--or be sent to prison themselves if it is uncontrolable--in order to allow others to make decisions. At best, it shows incompetence. At worse, it is evil. Come on!
